PREP FOR PAINT - LEARNING OUTCOMES

Safety	Skill Level 1

Prep for Paint	Work Practices	1.) Wear all necessary PPE for all tasks to be performed.
		2.) Read and understand all SDS publications for materials to be used.
		3.) Read and understand all TDS publications for materials to be used.
	In-Shop Experience	1.) Learn where product SDS and TDSs are stored.
		2.) Research which PPE is needed for the materials used.
		3.) Know where your PPE is stored and when to use it.
	Skills Assessment	1.) Test apprentice by asking him/her to research a specific product, determine its proper use, and the proper PPE to use.
		2.) Make sure apprentice knows where PPE is stored and how to use it.

Surface Cleaning	Skill Level 1

Prep for Paint	Work Practices	1.) Research and follow the surface cleaning process recommended by the paint system used in your shop; the following is a generic outline.
		2.) Wash the vehicle with soap and water before any work begins.
		3.) Use both water-based and solvent-based cleaners.
		4.) Spray a heavy, wet coat of cleaner on an area no more than 2 square feet in size.
		5.) Wipe solvent dry with a clean paper towel before it evaporates.
		6.) Dispose of used towels in an approved container.
	In-Shop Experience	1.) Clean parts to be prepped and sanded following proper work practices for the paint system used in your shop.
	Skills Assessment	1.) Observe the apprentice for proper use of the cleaning products.
