Grind area to be filled with coarse sandpaper. Slightly v-groove away from the damaged area. All gloss on the surface should be removed to maximize filler adhesion.
If the material is a polyolefin (PP, PE, TEO, or TPO), apply 1060FP Filler Prep Adhesion Promoter.
Choose a two-part epoxy filler to match the hardness of the substrate. If flexible, use 2000 Flex Filler 2. If rigid, use 2020 SMC Hardset Filler.
Mix epoxy adhesive in equal parts and apply. Build up slightly higher than the surface to allow for sanding. Allow at least 20 minutes to cure before sanding. Contour and smooth the surface with 80 and 180 grit paper.
Step 5 - Primer Surface to Prepare for Topcoat
If the material is a polyolefin (TEO, TPO or PP), apply 1050 Plastic Magic Adhesion Promoter to any exposed plastic areas according to label directions.
Apply primer to repaired area in light coats. Allow plenty of time between coats to avoid "bulls eye" effects.
Block sand to a smooth finish with 320 and 400 grit sandpaper.
Step 6 - Apply Flexible Color Coat
After sanding primer, blow dust free and apply a sealer to hold down scratches and seal off the repair area.
Mix a flex additive with unthinned paint, then thin according to paint manufacturer's instructions. Coat the entire panel; do not attempt to spot. Coat with urethane clearcoat in areas where the paint could be exposed to gasoline.
