The supply chain issues that have made headlines over the past year have impacted parts availability in the collision repair industry. For this reason, many shop owners are more interested than ever in repairing parts than replacing them. Plastic parts are great candidates for repair because they are not structural and are often easy to repair with the right equipment and knowledge.
The knowledge side of this equation is lacking in shops more than the absence of tools or equipment. Technician turnover and a general hesitancy to repair damaged plastic parts has created a need for easily accessible training on plastic repair.
To fill this need, Polyvance has created Polyvance University, a new online training resource that will help technicians young and old learn plastic repair essentials.
The first course offering within Polyvance University is “Basics of Plastic Repair.” This course is designed to give the student the basic knowledge they need to start working with plastic. It covers plastic identification, plastic preparation, six different repair methods, and plastic refinishing. There are three knowledge-check quizzes throughout the course and one final quiz at the end. Upon successful completion of the course (70% or greater on the final quiz), the student is emailed a course completion certificate.
“Basics of Plastic Repair” is available for only $15 from Polyvance’s learning management portal at https://polyvance.tortal.net/. The course consists of 17 modules and will take approximately one hour to complete. The average lesson length is about four minutes, and the course can be started and stopped at any time to accommodate the student’s schedule.
Polyvance plans to release follow-on courses that will be more in-depth, but “Basics of Plastic Repair” provides a comprehensive overview of the different methods of plastic repair and a foundation on which to build future knowledge.
