Polyvance Introduces Nitrogen Plastic Welding in Georgia Skills Competition
Polyvance announces its collaboration with the Skills Georgia leadership team to introduce nitrogen plastic welding as a scored part of the competition in the 2020 state-level contest.
Although nitrogen plastic welding has been a scored part of the competition at the National SkillsUSA competition since 2018, incorporation at the state level has been delayed, mainly due to a lack of resources and awareness. “Indiana and Oklahoma were a couple of the first states to include plastic welding,” says Kurt Lammon, Polyvance’s president. “Last year we helped to start it in Tennessee. We look forward to starting in Georgia this year.”
Polyvance is working with 3M and State Farm in Georgia to augment the traditional adhesive repair elements with plastic welding. “We are currently discussing how to incorporate plastic welding with the adhesive repairs in Georgia, but in Tennessee last year we had one of each repair and it was certainly enough to be able to distinguish the skill level of the competitors,” says Lammon.
Eli Morgan and Tim Tollison of State Farm lead the Skills Georgia team and Jackie Johnson of 3M oversees the plastic repair portion of the contest. “We’re honored to be invited to work with these great people who selflessly volunteer their time to address the technician shortage challenge we all face,” says Lammon.
The Skills Georgia contest is scheduled for Friday, March 13, 2020 at the Caliber Collision location at Mt. Zion Road in Morrow, GA. The winners of this contest will represent Georgia at the national SkillsUSA competition in Louisville, KY on June 25th.
Polyvance urges any state chairs who want to incorporate nitrogen plastic welding into their contests to contact Kurt Lammon at kurt@polyvance.com as soon as possible. For an overview of the plastic welding portion of the contest, Polyvance created a training video.
